This is a small guide onto hosting, if anything is missing feel free to message me, or correct the problem yourself if you're a admin/moderator.

- Hosting and You -

Before we may begin, you may want to check if you have a router or not. Simply follow your Ethernet cable (The cable that you plug into your computer, usaully blue or yellow.) and see if it's connected to anything. If it's connected to another device that has the same cords in it, then you got a router.

Checking your IP
If you're going to check out your IP, do realize that your External IP does not start with: 192.168.1 That is usaully your Router or Internal IP.
To check your ip, go to a Ip-address site.
Example site: ip-addres.com

Use the site given to you as your real Ip. This is the IP required for people to connect to your games.

Setting up your router.

You're wondering why you can't host, or have anyone connect to your server, right? That is because you may be behind a router, or a firewall. Firewalls will be covered later on.

If you have a router (I'm guessing you already checked.) It's bound to have numbers and a label on it. Usaully like Linksys, linksys is a type of router that i use, and therefore is easy. Now i can't just tell you how to access each and every router, but most usaully require to go into the browser and type something like: 192.168.1.1 (Sometimes it's 192.168.1.2 ) But for now, i will suggest to go to here: http://www.portforward.com/english/routers...routerindex.htm This site shows a list of routers in which you may have, look on your router and try to match what the Name and Number is from your router, onto the site. If you find a match, good go and click it and follow it's instructions. Note: It may ask you to choose a game, go and find Diablo II

At any time, if your router resets, the last digits of your Router IP may change, and you may have to re do the ports with a different end IP.

Port forwarding

The port for Diablo II is 4000 and 6112. (Both UDP and TCP.) Now usaully your site should have a site which has Port Forwarding. Like mine for example: http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/9800/example1.png (Yours may not look like this, but mine does.) The router list should of already of told you how to put it in.

Firewall

You may or may not have a Firewall, if you do you may look for something called: Port Forwarding. Or maybe look for: Exceptions (Usuaully Windows Firewall has this.) Find the option in which may allow you to add UCP and TCP ports to be enabled or forwarded. I simply use Threat Fire, so i got no problems, it doesn't block anything. If you have ANY programs blocking ports, i immediately suggest turning them off before any of this and see if hosting works, if not then continue to forward/enable ports through your firewall.

If people still cannot connect even if you forwarded your router (if you have one) or firewall, then you want to disable all programs blocking connections like a Anti Virus or Firewall. (Be careful, remember this is at your own will and decision.)

An alternative solution

There is another solution called Hamachi.
Site: https://secure.logmein.com/products/hamachi/vpn.asp?lang=en

Step 1. Download (Just click Download now, and hit the Go to download button at the bottom, make sure you clicked the check box for Conditions. )
Step 2. Install.
Step 3. During Install: Disable vulnerable Windows services over Hamachi. You should do this, so that firewalls and other programs may accept this and NOT block it.
Step 4. During Install: Hit finish when it's all done.
Step 5. Wait for it to load up the program, and configure the Network.
Step 6. Go through the tutorial and do what it says
Step 7. During Tutorial: Join the network: ShadowDiablo The password will be: hatred
Step 8. (Usaully it won't let you go past in the tutorial even when you join) Close the tutorial.

Now take their Real IP and try to connect to their game in Diablo II. (This doesn't always have to be for Diablo II ) If it works, yippie, if it doesn't, try the IP next to their name in Hamachi. (Make sure they tell you their name in Hamachi.)
If it still does not work, then i do not know what else to tell you. Make sure all programs are off that could prevent them, and try with that. Steam may affect performance.

Hamachi

The ShadowDiablo hamachi will become the offical Hamachi server, and i will be moderating and watching it. Hamachi act's as a LAN if people connect, causing multiplayer for most games. Or more if you really wanted to.

This is all for now - Slizard.
